Commerical Fire

At around 1500 hrs units were dispatched for a Plant fire in the lanier industrial park. Once units were in-route dispatch advised that there was a caller on the line advised black smoke was coming from a vent on top of the building. Car 1 (Allen) arrived on scene and advised the same due to the hydrant being 3000 ft away water supply was set up and a tanker shuttle was started. Crews advised the building was full of black smoke and they could see one of the generators inside with fire coming from under it. Due to high voltage crews waited till the power company advised that the power was shut to the complex and entered and extinguished the fire then ventilated the structure. Units-Engine 11,12,31,21 Squad 17 Ladder 5 Tanker 36 26 Car 1 and 3


 
   
   
Gas Leak at Hermitage

At around 1800 hrs on Monday Manakin units were dispatched to Hermitage Country Club for a gas leak. E11 and S17 arrived and found a propane tank leaking behind the structure. Crews monitored the air and had 50% LEL. E11 quickly stretched a 1 3/4 and cut the fuel off to the leaking regulator. Crews cleared up and returned to service. Units: E11, S17, R10.


 
   
   
Smoke in the structure

At around 1200 hrs units were dispatched to Woodson Pl. for smoke in the structure. Engine11 arrived with nothing showing. Manakin personnel found a problem with the flue and fixed the issue. PPV was used to remove smoke, units cleared and returned to service. Units: Engine 11, Tanker 16, Squad 17, Rescue 10.


 
   
   
Water Rescue

Over the past week Manakin water Rescue has been dispatched for 2 water rescue calls for citizens pets trapped in frozen ponds. 1.18.10 Just after 1226 hrs units from Manakin and Goochland (Co. 5) were dispatched for a dog trapped in the middle of a frozen lake with the owner attempted to free the dog. Captain 14 (Branch) arrived on scene and established command reporting 1 dog trapped in the ice 25ft off shore with no human injuries. Crews put Boat 1 in at the Sabot Hill Summer house landing and brought the dog to shore and returned it to the owners. Units- Squad 17, Brush 19,. Boat 1, Rescue 10, Car 3 (Ferguson) and Brush/Boat 5 were returned to service.


 
   
   
House Fire

First call of the New Year....First Fire of the New Year. At 06:40 Hrs this morning Manakin was dispatched to a fire alarm in Centerville's First Due Area. Before units arrived dispatch reported they had the home owner on the line as well as the alarm company and there was a car on fire in the garage. Deputy Chief Ferguson (Car 3) arrived on the scene and reported light smoke showing from a single story frame house all occupants were out.. Engine 31 (Centerville) and (Manakin) Engine 12 arrive on the scene at the same time and made an interior attack and the incident was brought under control at 07:15. There was no extention in to the living area.  Units operating on the call - Engine 12, Rescue 10,Engine 31, Tanker 36, Squad 37 Ladder 5 , Car 3 and Mutiual Aid Hanover Engine Company 9.


 
Santa Visits Manakin

Santa rode along with us as we visited the neighborhoods of our first-due area. He handed out candy canes and took a few last-minute gift requests. Look out for him next year!

Busy Day

Manakin responded to 3 back to back calls this afternoon including a golfball havester fire at Sycamore Creek , residential fire alarm in Randolph Square, and a single vehicle mva at Patterson Ave and 288. Later that night squad 17 responded to I64 for a single vehicle accident with multiple rollovers.


 
Entrapment With Partial Ejection

Squad 17 responded to Cardwell and Broad Street for report of a vehicle with heavy damage and people trapped. On scene 17 went to work on stablization and extrication. The victim was removed and flown to VCU Medical Center.
